If you knew the disdain I had for structure that I had to push through...

This version of me?
She didn’t happen overnight.
It took 11 years of learning, trying, growth, trying again.

And I share this because if I could go from carefree but chaotic and drowning in caring for littles to consistent and able to provide stability for my kids even when home can be chaotic—then so can you.

This isn’t just about me.

It might look silly… but if you’ve ever longed to have a close bond with your daughter, then you already know why this moment matters.

Sometimes it’s not the big milestones—it’s the moments of connection that make you pause, laugh, and feel like maybe you’re doing alright after all.
⠀
Today I’m holding my daughter like she’s my firstborn (she’s the 3rd and only daughter), because honestly?

She represents something.
She’s the reward for showing up.
She’s a tiny symbol of progress, peace, growth… or just a really good blessing from God who sharpens me and teaches me kindness, gentleness, patience, goodness and more!

After having 2 sons, everyone asked me if I hoped my 3rd would be a girl. I said we’ll be happy with whatever God blesses us with. We love the surprise of finding out our babies’ genders at birth rather than knowing during the pregnancy.

Once I had a daughter and saw the beauty of knowing both sons and a daughter, I understood.

It wasn’t just about having a girl, but seeing the beauty of God’s creation through both sexes.

Male and female he created them.
Male and female, I get to experience every day with my children. I get to see the beauty of humanity in all its aspects.

Sometimes the truth stings a little—but it also helps a lot.

So let’s rip the Band-Aid off and say what too many people in the church are afraid to say: 👇

For mom with littles, mom with young kids:
🎯Stop waiting for the “perfect time” to start faith habits at home. It doesn’t exist—smart planning > perfect timing.
🎯You will probably need to compromise—on time, money, effort, or expectations.
🎯Consistency will beat motivation every time.
🎯The messy part is part of the process—not a reason to quit.
🎯That one thing you keep avoiding? It’s probably the thing that would change everything.
🎯Hard to swallow truth: You can’t leave it to the church to do this for you and hope your kids will stay in the church after they graduate. You must practice faith at home too!

I’m not saying this to be harsh. I’m saying it because I actually want you to get results (your child’s faith is eternally worth it). I want you to stop spinning in circles and finally feel clear, confident, and capable.

I know this might be one of the hardest seasons you’ve faced—mentally, emotionally, or physically.

I’m not here to pressure you.
I’m here to walk with you while you grow through it.

Don’t miss out on helping your kids to reboot after a long day of school or just idly playing video games or watching tv.

If we’ve had a lazy day and I can tell my kids are getting irritable with me or each other, we stop and go outside for a rest.

Breathe in fresh air, get our bare feet in the grass, and play for a while.

Can you relate to this? 👇

I’ve been trying for years to find a system that works for getting my kids to pick up and clean up. And it’s been brutally disappointing and frustrating.

My kids dig in and resist, whining and complaining the whole time, and I usually just accept defeat and rationalize a messy house because we don’t have help and I don’t have time to work AND pick up all day long.

But one thing I’ve learned is that I want my kids to grow up having skills that I didn’t learn. I want them to learn how to care for their homes, cook, clean, etc. Believe it or not, I never really thought I’d need to know how to do those things.

And so I resisted and avoided and rationalized.

But recently, a parenting therapist told me that maybe they need to see what clean looks like: have a list of what a clean room is.

Before this idea, I would just tell them the steps to pick up (and resent having to remind them what they were). So 3 steps at a time, repeated to 3 kids, over and over, and over it went. I would get frustrated, get fed up, and quit trying.

We’ve used checklists with success in other areas of our home, so I decided to do it.

So this revelation of having something for them to see really opened my eyes, and I think will really help you too.

So here’s what you can do:
🎯Make an ordered list of what a “clean” bedroom looks like.
🎯Break it down into manageable steps.
🎯Show the kids your list.
🎯Set a timer for 10-15 minutes.
🎯See what worked, adjust, repeat.

Make sure they know that when the timer goes off, they can stop. It’s better to have a shorter session than it to drag on and everyone get frustrated and not want to do it again. (All 3 of my kids asked for more time to keep going and finished the list.)

I’ll go first…

Let’s talk about one of the most overhyped, or straight-up misleading things I tried (and saw others trying) when I was just trying to be a good Christian sports mom.

I saw the belief that just going to church whenever you could make it (no sports conflict) would be enough to your child being a well-rounded kid.
The thing that would finally make life better for your child.
The thing that would help your child keep up athletically, get ahead, and learn skills for life.

Instead… it makes you feel even more disconnected.
It drains your energy running from place to place.
It pulled your focus away from what actually matters, raising your children to be thoughtful, kind humans.

And honestly? It makes you feel like you’re doing something wrong—like you are the problem for not making it work to get to church and give your kids a good upbringing.

But here’s what I wish someone had told me instead:
👉 Only the things you make a priority will impact your child’s life.
Sports on Sunday mornings -> Striving after something we might never get. Keeping up. Lessons we could learn in other ways.
Church on Sundays -> Stability in life from a constant, loving God, able to get through all of life’s hard times.

Only one will prepare your child for what life is certain to give them: challenges, doubts, and struggles. The other won’t.

Turns out… the thing that actually helped me wasn’t fancy, viral, or Instagram-worthy.

It was slow.
It was practical.
And yes — it was hard.

But it worked.
⠀
If you’ve ever felt like you were failing because the “things you need to do to make life better for your child” didn’t work for you—I need you to know:
You’re not alone.
You’re not doing it wrong.
You just need advice that fits your life—not someone else’s idea of what success looks like.
